(CNN) -- A bomb squad with the Belgian military was investigating a suspicious vehicle outside the United States Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday, the Belgian Defense Ministry said.

Officials did not say whether the building had been evacuated, though a journalist with CNN affiliate RTL saw people leaving the embassy.

"A wrongly parked vehicle was spotted near the embassy, which raised some security concerns. Become of that, some security measures have been taken," said Joren Vandeweyer, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Brussels is home to the headquarters of NATO and the European Union.

CNN's Andrew Carey and Jo Shelley contributed to this report.
